Duncan’s Next Sci-Fi.

I’m pretty skeptical about Source Code (that flick with Jake Gyllenhaal that comes out in a few weeks), but that doesn’t mean Duncan Jones still isn’t one of my favorite new directors.  The emphasis he put on Sci-Fi-Realism in 2009′s wonderful Moon was just about enough for me; add to that writing talent, an eye for film (in that Kubrick-esque, subtle way), and a push for miniatures/stunts/set design rather than CG in decade number two of the 2000′s and I’m a fan.  A big fan.  Bleeding Cool (Rich Johnston’s all things geek site) is reporting… I should say gossiping, on the next film Jones will tackle.

“One thing I can tell you about my next project is that I’m determined to do a future city film, I want it to be my homage to Blade Runner, even if it’s a bit bigger, it will be a city based future film.”

Sounds good to me!  The writer of the piece mentions Terry Gilliam‘s Brazil in terms of the city Jones will be depicting, these dude’s are speaking my language.  They’re also running a piece about a piece of art depicting Moon’s world as an old-school, PC point-and-click adventure (think Sam & Max).  Looky:

And if you haven’t seen Moon, you really owe it to yourself to at least rent it.

  1. I’m skeptical as well — although the critics appear to think it’s ok — at the moment…. It looks like a carbon copy of about five or six movies which have come out over the last few years.

    But yes, MOON! A masterpiece…
