Snap It Together; Be Sure It Clicks.

Fuck- I miss you. This, I meant this. But I’m surviving; not only surviving, but I’m enjoying. Something we all desperately need to some degree. I don’t know anything though. The final point comes out. Which of course is life’s purpose: knowledge. This vital piece both connects and separates us. I heard a sound earlier that vaguely sounded like a mixture of a child crying and an adult laughing; maybe I was half-sleeping, or clouding my perceptions and senses. Either way I don’t like it. So where the hell to begin?

Perceptions have been an obsession of mine since I started Huxley’s Doors Of Perception. Now I constantly try to expand my consciousness. Think about different things differently. Many times even without substances. Right now the book delves into what exactly education, of any kind, means. Listen to this: “…all our education is predominantly verbal and therefore fails to accomplish what it is supposed to do.” Huxley’s challenging, and maybe it has changed since this book was published, the very educational establishment. “Words and notions”, he repeats. “Highly educated people find it all but impossible to pay attention to anything but words and notions.” The all important problem with a system like this is: who influenced whom to say what when? These ideas go deeper than simply education however. I’m thinking Epistemology and the nature of knowledge in general.

Scientists gained HUGE knowledge recently with the discovery of ice on Mars. I know I’m late on this… haven’t been around this town in a while. But I was really disappointed the day after the discovery to notice that the St. Paul Pioneer Press (yeah, I’m singling you out mother fucker) pushed that story back to page 4A; all the while a story involving the ever growing amount of gas jackers and the stations’ attempts to stop the stealing of gasoline. Wow. Hey, you know, that’s fascinating. But we’ve been looking for ice on Mars for a LONG time now. And we found it! Step 2 is analyzing it.

This Gasoline stuff is getting out of control. And I don’t mean the prices either (although the prices are a bitch). Every. Single. Day. The mainstream media puts out literally thousands of stories about energy and gasoline. Every day. I’m going to give my opinion to drill or not-drill here, it isn’t the time… well it IS the time, but certainly not the PLACE. We all fucking know that gas is ridiculously expensive right now, it sucks; I don’t need a CNN piece on the gasoline situation every 12 minutes every hour. Especially, ESPECIALLY when the collective human race is on the brink of discovery.

I talked about this a long time ago however: as a collective planet and species, we’re on the verge of great things and wondrous discoveries. Things that could change this planet forever. Things that could change our legacy forever. But nations, the public at large, the media, popular culture, daily life in America, EVERYTHING… is just so damned petty compared to the big BIG things. No one gets along at all. It’s just so sad for me to watch. Because we, as a species, have been through the shit. We’ve seen the garbage and the rubbish. We’ve seen the bullshit. We’re on the edge of that next stage in human life on the planet Earth (and beyond), but we just can’t get over the hump. It’s sad to say, but maybe we never will. I thought for a long time that the human race would be more than just a tiny little blip on the Earth time line; I may have been wrong.

On the agenda:

  • Local H in Fargo and Maplewood.
  • Some comic talk/reviews.
  • This whole Deerhoof sampling idea.
  • A continuation of that night in the city.
  • Bullshit.
