One of the coolest “Happenings” I’ve seen! Not that artists even do Happenings anymore, that sort of thing went out with the death of Pop-Art and Hendrix. But Happenings once served as free exposure for artists, not to mention free art for any viewers or passersby, and as a meeting-place for ideas. The NYC Chicken, the Tire Yard.
I’m a little tardy on this, though. It went down May 24th-28th, of 2007. The event gave over 60 Artists (mostly underground) the chance to design their very own Darth Vader helmet.
Artists included Kii Arens, the creator of Local H’s “No Fun EP” artwork. Kii does all sorts of CD covers, as well as paintings and mixed media. Also, the infamous ‘Cartoon’. Cartoon might be the most famous tattoo artist in the world. He works in L.A. Among other graffitii artists, comic book artists, painters, and the like. Check it out!
